Did you know that SEO crawlers won’t crawl your website navigation bar? Read that one more time. Navigation Bars (or Top Nav, Menus, or just Nav for short) are considered to be too customizable for search engines to crawl. So instead of trying to understand a nearly infinite number of customization options, search engines now expect websites to link internally as well as on a nav bar. If your website only links to your internal webpages through the Top Nav, then you have a problem that can be easily fixed! Internal linking is generally considered to be a best practice by SEO experts, as it boosts SEO AND provides more usability for your visitors. You can start building internal links by using the Top Nav as a framework for organizing your internal links. Each page and/or post should internally link to at least one of your other webpages if not more than one. Keep in mind that these links should use anchor text that already exists on the page instead of something like, “Click here to learn more.” See what we did there?
